Connetquot River State Park Preserve is a 3,473 acre state park and conservation area. The park offers hiking, fishing, a bridle path, nature trails, cross-country skiing, snow shoeing, a museum, and recreation activities.

Gilded Age estates were a feature of Oakdale's past toward the end of the 19th century and into the early 20th century. The most notable one,Idle Hour, was built by Vanderbilt in 1882 along the Connetquot River.
